Wren was donated to Redemption Ranch in June of 2020. Her previous owners adopted her from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) as a baby and donated her to us when she was 3-years old. Wren was born in a BLM facility in July of 2017, but her mom was captured in the Reveille Herd Management Area (HMA) in Nevada. Wren is Redemption Ranch's first ever horse and thus the true foundation of our Equine Therapy Program. She is also currently our only mare, so she's the princess in a group of boys!
Coffee was donated to us in September of 2024 and is actually not a mustang, but a grade Quarter Horse gelding. Unlike most of our horses, his story is somewhat of a rescue situation. The family that donated him to us rescued him from a neglectful situation where he was not receiving adequate attention and care. They had always planned to find him a forever family, and once they were introduced to us, they decided to donate him to Redemption Ranch. Coffee is about 13 years old and has the cutest personality, especially when it comes to treat time!
Technically not a BLM mustang, Midnight came from a wild herd of horses in the Tehachapi mountains. The herd is located on private lands, so they are not managed by the BLM, but the caretaker of the property watches out for the herd and tries to manage numbers by catching some of them and adopting them out a couple times a year. So, we decided to adopt one and Midnight is the only horse we have actually "paid" for since there was a small adoption fee. His herd is thought to be descended from Morgan horses since there used to be Morgan ranches in the area. Midnight was gelded when he was caught in the summer of 2024 and aged at approximately 2-years old, so he was likely born in 2022 and is the youngest in our herd. He came to us in October of 2024 and we've been pleasantly surprised at how well he has adjusted to domesticated life. Midnight has a sweet and quiet nature and enjoys having his ears scratched!
